Hi Everyone,
Time is just flying by! I think I am going to blink and the summer is going to be over, I am doing the last min prep for all of my shows this month and starting to pack things up. Good thing I started early it is a far larger undertaking then it has been in past years. This year we will be evaluating a double booth and tent set up for next year. Some shows merit it, some do not so we will see how it goes.
I have an idea for a cool new piece that I am going to sketch out today. Yesterday I got too caught up in packaging things and packing stuff up to go to get around to it. We have to be show ready first and foremost.
In my spare time (haha) I have been reading Guenevere queen of the summer country which so far is pretty good. I read from midnight till 2 am to wind down in the evenings now. The closer to shows the more awake I am staying up later and later because I just can't shut off so it should be interesting. We are excited for our day at Spoutwood though Johnnie is concerned about me burning again. We of course wear sunscreen but I am pretty fair.
I think that with shows our ship days may vary. They of course will go out once a week as always but with us going out of town a lot they can't all be fridays. I am thinking Wednesdays are the best middle ground day from now on. We will NOT close while we are at out of state shows. It will be business as usual as always so no worries there.
I have to run and get my hair cut so have a good one guys!

Ready
So after a pretty busy weekend of prep I can say if I don't do another single thing and go to a show I will be OK with that. Not that I am planning that by any means but it is nice to hit a spot were you can coast if you have to. I have over a hundred mini prints to bag and dozens upon dozens of greeting cards to do when I get them. Then of course we start packing. I am excited to get back out there again.
Today has been busy booking hotels and flights for shows in the late summer, ordering some more inventory and taking some business calls. I had to book a place to stay for anthrocon because I hadn't yet. I have some website updating to do (as always) an order to fill and of course painting.
I am thinking the next one will be digital and more of an anthro piece for anthrocon. I have lots of works in progress that I can pick up at any time. I want to have a new painting to show off at MD fairy festival. I have three for Greenman, then the fairy festival is the very next week. We are about to get SO busy, with the shows and the figurines coming in we are going to be checking them in the evenings for some time to come. It is going to take forever to check it all but I will check it. That is something not a lot of the other artists can boast. At one point I touch and inspect each one of these pieces. I sign them. If it isn't good enough I don't sell it.
Today I am not painting, I wanted to give my hand a rest after painting all week and weekend finishing up Cloud Dance. I am pretty pleased with it. I will work on sketching some concepts for my new piece and then call it at day. I still have house chores to do and I am clearing out old stuff we don't want or need anymore. It is hard to keep a house with 8 pets, a messy artist and an equally messy engineer pristine. I try. I know when the fur tumbleweeds start to migrate across the floor it is time to sweep ;) You don't want to leave dust bunnies unchecked for too long, they become feral if you do..

One week
This time next week we will be at the Spoutwood PA fairy festival with all of our friends. I am really excited!!
Of course the week after that we will be vending at the Greenman Festival which is also very cool! We have a VERY packed may with the shows and the figurines coming in and the book. Lots of cool stuff ahead. I think I am going to blink and it will all be over.
I am 90% complete with my new painting which is called Cloud Dance. It is a digital piece painted from scratch in photo shop. I recorded some of it on USTREAM if anyone is curious. Cloud Dance, in my opinion is the best painting I have done so far so I am really excited to have it finished and to have it shown at Greenman. I am going to do at least another unicorn piece as I have a request from some licensors about them. Then I need to shift my focus to the Furries as we are doing Anthrocon!!
My wrist is steadily getting better. I am doing a lot more things with my left hand and making sure I take breaks and what have you on the computer.
Johnnie is making some more PSP tubes for Fantasy Scraps and taking pictures of the new candles for the website. Also we are doing shots of the Enchanted Baths for promos and what have you. Busy busy as usual. I want to do some tiding up and make sure we have everything ready for the shows.

May Shows and new art!

The magic all starts for me next week with the show season going in full swing. Johnnie and I are going to be BUSY though November really. So try not to get too mad at us for falling off of the face of the earth.

I am working on a really pretty new piece on my digital tablet which I think may be my best work of art to date. I am premiering Peacock Fantasy, Autumn Dragon and it at the Greenbelt Greenman Festival.
The book and figurines will be here some time in May, we will see how fast everything is shipped here. We are hoping for the Maryland Fairy Festival.
Soy candles, smellie jellies and candle tins are in stock. These are the last of the tins (I bought them all) so get them while we have them.
In Palm Wax candle news Coriale Enterprises is releasing some new ones with my art on them.
Other then that the sun is shining, the birds are singing and I am painting. So all is well.

Painting and candles
Ok so all my smelly jellys and the LAST of the candle tins are in stock and on my website. I was only able to get ONE of each smelly jelly and ONE of each candle tin so have at it. These go to Greenman in less then a month and then we will be doing show after show with them.
I have been doing some sporadic digital painting, making sure not to stress my hand too much. It is still bothering me but I dont' fully rest it, I need to answer emails and stuff. I need to stop with it though.

Painting today
Today I have been well enough to do a little digital painting. I don't want to push too hard but I am really happy with how it is turning out. I am also toying with titles so there is really nothing much I can say about it other then it is pretty cool, its digital and it will be done in a week or so.
Other then that things have been slow here. It is sort of the calm before the storm so I am going to try and get as much done as I can. I could go to a show tomorrow and be ok with what I have but if I have everything I want that would be far better. We will see how things progress.
As night and in between painting breaks I have been reading and am almost finished with The Other Boelyn Girl. I should be finished by this evening but have lots of other books. It is a compelling read. I saw the movie they did about it when it was out and liked that. I mean really with the costumes alone what is not to like?
Well I need to get painting again, night all.

Figurines and more!
Hi Everyone,
I just found out that the figurines shipped already! Like 11 days ago so they should be here soon. It is looking like they will even be here in time for the Maryland Fairy Festival if they don't get hung up in customs or something. My ornament samples are in the shipment as well and we will be reviewing them and most likely showing them at INATS west.
My hand is feeling MUCH better thanks to the brace Johnnie got for me. I am still cursing the nun that forced me to choose my right hand to write as my left was bumping my neighbor. The Catholics weren't big on the ambidexterity, its a shame because I would have been able to draw and paint with both. jerks.
on my hiatus, I still managed to do orders and email left handed, even some house work. I read a lot too. I finished Kitty Norville book 4, Bite and Isolde. I am currently reading The Other Boleyn Girl. I also have Stardust and the princess bride waiting for me. Paperback swap rules.
I want to do some new pieces for my upcoming shows. The rest of the week I am going to work on something. Not as long as I usually do, just in case because I don't want to hurt my hand.
My book should be wrapped up by tomorrow! Yay!

gloomy day
Today is so dark and rainy the whole house is asleep! I usually at least have one pet keeping me company during the day but thanks to the weather doing its best gothic romance novel impression outside there is no one to be found. I am trying to do some light housework and website updating today. My wrist is in a brace and I am trying to go easy on it but it is just impossible for me to just sit around and wait for it to get better.
Mystical art has two new scrapbook pages with my art. One is Sly and the other is Witching hour! Very cool, I like the witching hour one best of all I think.
Also for my cross stitchers Heaven and Earth designs just released several new charts of mine.
This week my book goes to print and we are getting a test copy before we order the slew of books we need to fill pre orders and have for the shows. If you want to get in on the preorder with the free sketch this is the FINAL week to be able to do that. Of course you can get a book at a show but I am only doing sketches in the pre ordered books. Wrapping up
So yesterday I painted for 10 hours straight resulting in some wrist pain. I am taking it easy this weekend with emailing and painting.
I have finished all my art for the book! Peacock fantasy is complete and we are wrapping up everything this weekend and it goes off to the publisher. That is very cool!
Now I am getting ready for my shows, I am trying on costumes and making prints like crazy. I think I will be ready on time.
Well I gotta get, no more typing for me. Have an amazing weekend everyone.

Candles are here!
Hi Everyone!
Fedex just delivered a TON of candles to my house, both the soy wax AND palm wax varieties. They are SO well done as usual. I am a bit of a candle snob as I made soap and candles in college. I am stocking them on the site as we speak so have it them.
Just a heads up I have a buyer coming to shop my storeroom tomorrow. I don't know what they will want or buy so if you want candles I suggest you take advantage. I am only getting in a limited quantity and I am not sure how long it will take to get more. Show seasons are starting which means the candle fairies are going to be working overtime.
Last night I finished fall dragon and I am so glad I am through that series. I don't know I started to crap out after the spring one so I am GLAD. Johnnie will be photographing candles, and fall dragon this weekend. Maybe necklaces too.

Planning
Well things are looking up. I am getting into a lot of the shows I want to and it is shaping up to be a very busy year. Its pretty cool to be a featured artist at my hometown show The Maryland Fairy Festival. I will be with the very talented Linda Biggs who is also a MD girl.
I am about half way through painting my Fall dragon which is good. I want him done by Friday at the latest. I am thinking of trying a different style for a while and see if it works. I have some ideas in the works for other things.
My art closet is clean and my studio is part way there. I also started working out again and trying to get to bed at a respectable hour, well respectable for me anyway. I have been reading at night and thanks to paperbackswap.com I never run out of books. I finished Isolde, Queen of the western Isle which was really good and started Kitty and the silver bullet which is 4th in a series of Kitty Norville books I have been reading. Now all I have to do is finish it and hope someone posts the 5th one. I have a stack of books to read including Stardust, The lady and the Unicorn, Guenevere, Queen of the Summer Country and a few more.
I am also planning out my costumes and such for the shows this year. I have a few but I can't keep wearing the exact same thing to the exact same place over and over, especially when I am a special guest. I have some things in the works, I am working on some accessories. I know Johnnie is making me some steampunk wings for my one outfit and we are having a meeting tonight about some feather wings, crowns and other things, We are also plotting out our propanels and when we should expand into a double booth. The numbers this year is going to really determine wether or not we will be needing an additional tent and space and the shows. Maybe next year, maybe the year after. We are also doing ads and the book and a million other things as usual. And as usual when things get crazy nuts Johnnie has a big work project and has to work overtime. Sigh.
So far I haven't gotten any offers about my original art which is surprising because I am letting you name your own price. If you want to make an offer email ash@ashevans.com with the subject heading offer.
Well my paint wash is dry so off to work on fall dragon again.

Update
Had an odd sleeping night last night. I went to bed at 2:30am and then was forced out of bed by a husband, three cats and a bed hogging chihuahua around 6:30 so I got up and did some things for an hour. I woke Johnnie up which freed up a considerable amount of space and went back to sleep. This weekend has had me drained, my wrist is bothering me for some reason or another so I am trying to stay off the computer as much as possible typing today. Also no digital painting. I am working on my Fall dragon though and trying to straighten up my studio. I also got word that 2 boxes of candles are shipping this week. I should have more things arrive a bit later. The hunt is over
Hello everyone, I am officially closing the first Beasteregg hunt so it is all over and done with. Thanks to all of my very helpful friends for participating, you guys rock.
Today was pretty cool, I found out that I got into the dealers room at DragonCon so we are officially going!! I am excited I have only ever driven through Atlanta and now we get to stop for a while at least. Pretty cool!
We have more exciting things happening but I won't say boo about it until it is all solidified. YAY!
Tomorrow I plan on working on my Fall dragon which is the last of the four seasons dragon series. I also would like to finish Peacock Fantasy. I really have to get cranking I have a lot to do!! I am tinkering around with some new concepts with art and themes I want to delve into.
Tonight after spending the day with family I am relaxing, catching up on email and doing some reading. Right now I am about a third of the way through Isolde, I had to set aside Mayfair Witches cause I was honestly kinda hating it.
I also have been doing a little hunting on my own. I really want the entire collection of Whisper the winged unicorn books. I attribute my unicorn obsession to two things, the Whisper the Winged unicorn series and The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle. I have gotten for free from Paperback swap the first whisper book. Well three things I loved My little ponies, and Legend (the movie) ok 4. My grandpa also got me hooked on fantasy with the movie "Flight of Dragons" Anyway I am looking for the Whisper books.
Well I am going to rest now because the rest of the week I am sure as heck am not going to be able to.
Today was pretty cool, I found out that I got into the dealers room at DragonCon so we are officially going!! I am excited I have only ever driven through Atlanta and now we get to stop for a while at least. Pretty cool!
We have more exciting things happening but I won't say boo about it until it is all solidified. YAY!
Tomorrow I plan on working on my Fall dragon which is the last of the four seasons dragon series. I also would like to finish Peacock Fantasy. I really have to get cranking I have a lot to do!! I am tinkering around with some new concepts with art and themes I want to delve into.

The hunt is STILL on
Hi Everyone,
We do have a grand prize and second place winner, still waiting for a third winner on the Beasteregg hunt! We do have a prize for you so try and finish if you can.
Today I had every intention of getting up really early and getting stuff done before we have to go to this family thing later today. Yeah it didn't work out as well as I thought it would. I did manage to go to a book store last night and bought some SUPER cheap reference books...darn you bargain books, it is only a bargain if you buy ONE! I got a horse one and a bird of prey one then figured I was already in trouble and got the new Mercy Thompson novel I have been waiting for. Now all I want to do is sit and sketch but can't, isn't that always the way!

He is really cool and I am not sure when I will get a chance to make another so grab him if you really want him.

Last day and update
So TODAY is the last day to sign up for the Beasteregg hunt. All you have to do is email me with the subject line Beasteregg hunt. Anyone who does not can't play as I am emailing the first clue. So you have from now until 11:59 EST tonight to do so. The first clue and a few instructions goes out tomorrow morning. Prizes are being determined by number of entrants but so far we have some stuff from myself and Brigid Ashwood, tubes from Fantasy Scraps AND a free subscription to Fantasy Ezine. Considering it was pulled together at the last min, very cool. I do want to start doing more contests, we will see how this one goes it took up a lot of my time this week coordinating and stuff.
I made a lot of jewelry yesterday. I will photograph and post it on ETSY to let people have first crack at it before I take it to shows in May. I have a lot of regular ribbon cameos to make and package as well. So much to do.
I cleaned off my art desk so I can start working on my autumn dragon and I am still deciding on colors for my sculpture. I better get a move on ASAP.

Eggs and sparkly things.
The Beasteregg hunt details and stuff is keeping me busy. I am still writing clues and organizing with my "hiders" People are sighing up which is cool. Sign ups end at 11:59 pm tomorrow so if you want to hunt you have to sign up with me ash@ashevans.com
A huge shipment of jewelry stuff came yesterday. I got lots of beads and other things to work with now. I made my very first two beaded necklaces last night and will do some more today. I think it is a lot of fun and I can see jewelry being something you will see a lot more of from me. Right now I am making a necklace for my large sea spray cameo. I hope people like them. I have some other cameo things I want to do but I haven't perfected the process yet I am thinking for some of it a heat press is going to be the best way to go.
Goals for the rest of the week include:
Jewelry
Paint my sculpture
Finish writing clues
Launch the Beasteregg hunt
Start my last four seasons dragon
Clean studio
Lots and lots more to do. Our weekend is completely eaten up with places we have to be which is a blessing and a curse really. I kinda really didn't need this weekend to be a wash. I am thinking I will be staying up really late to compensate for it.

Beasteregg hunt
Ok so I wanted to do something fun for you all for easter so here it is. I am going to be holding a Beasteregg hunt. Basically I am going to be hiding clues all over the net and the first person to find them all is going to win a prize!!! A pretty cool one too. There may be several prizes depending on who wants to play.
The hunt is going to start on Friday morning and ends when the last egg is found. Since i paint animals a Beasteregg is more run then a regular old egg. Progress
Oh man was yesterday stressful! The domain name threw me for a loop and thank GOD Steven was smart enough to code around all the problems it posed. There where some intense hours where there was a possibility the whole site would have to be recoded as the shopping cart and some things where locked and needed some code. My old designer couldn't be reached so yeah, chaos theory at its best. Everything is great now, nothing will be down. everything works. Life is good. So yeah Steven you totally rock.
Well that took up most of my day yesterday going oh crap this uses my old email and changing purchasing site email and all sorts of stuff. Not fun at all.
This dragon sculpture is cursed I swear the thing doesn't want to be painted!! I will paint it darn it I am tired of looking at him naked! I have got to get back into the productive streak I was having. I keep seeing people cranking out the art and I am like awww I wanna do that too! I am reorganizing things and hopefully that will help streamline everything.
Still making cameos at night with Johnnie. We polished all the cabochons and assembled all the face parts, ran out of bails so we need more. Johnnie soldiers the bails to they are super strong and don't come off so that is the next step for him. Lots to do, lots to do! A month from now we will be at Greenman so I gotta keep that in mind.
I have a tone of OOAK hand embellished matted archival prints we did for Imagicon. We will be taking them to Greenman where they always sell well but I did put them up on the site so you can grab one if you want. They are my favorite prints that is for sure.

Weekend
Last night we spent most of the evening making the cameo part of the cameo necklaces. These will be an ongoing project all weekend. I really want to get most of them done by next week so I don't have to worry about it for the next show. We are also experimenting with new sizes, settings and cabochon types. I have some really pretty porcelain cameos I will be working into lockets and a few other things. These will be more OOAK pieces. We have some really lovely beads and chains we will be working into those.
Tonight I am going out with a friend and tomorrow Johnnie and i are going to the zoo for reference photos and some fun. We both need a little bit of a break. I have been too swamped for new art though this weekend I want my dragon sculpture painted so I can get him up for sale. He needs a home!
Other then that things are moving along. We are firming up our figurine ship date with China and all that good stuff. We are really excited at what is ahead for the company. Candles should be in NEXT week, there was a little delay.
The cherry blossoms are in bloom here and their petals are falling down like perfumed snow. Our tree in the front yard is a little behind the others but we don't mind. It will still have flowers long after the others have fallen. We are looking into fencing off our property and then I can get to gardening. I want all sorts of roses and flowers in the back.
Anyway I better get back to it.
Tonight I am going out with a friend and tomorrow Johnnie and i are going to the zoo for reference photos and some fun. We both need a little bit of a break. I have been too swamped for new art though this weekend I want my dragon sculpture painted so I can get him up for sale. He needs a home!

stuff
Hi Everyone,
I have spent most of the day cutting out and putting together necklace pieces. I want to try and have them assembled, soldiered and ready to be packaged by the end of the weekend. I have a little more prep work for the next show to do and then I can focus on art again.
I am kind of in a funk. I don't know if it is post con blues or what but I am not feeling it lately. There are some background dramas I had to deal with that left a bitter taste in my mouth. Oh well. Not everyone is going to be happy all the time.
I have so many things to do and so many things I want to do, I need to make the time and find the balance to do them. I think that is going to be a work in progress.
I want to get my dragon painted and up on the website so he can go to a good home. I had several people at the con wanting to buy him but he wasn't even painted and I didn't feel right doing that.
So this evening Johnnie and I will be cameo machines! We have some other necklaces we will be working on too, more high end one of a kind special.
