Ash Vlog # 69

Where do you draw your inspiration for your art from?Kelly Smith

Inspiration is a crazy thing for me. It can be a book, a movie something I saw on a walk with my dog, a dream you name it. It comes at me from all sides. Mostly animals inspire me (since that is all I paint) My pets especially have been strong influences in my work, they have all been painted several times with the exception of the Chinchilla. Things I love inspire me too like horses and riding.

Auction still going

168.00 value of prints being auctioned 100% goes to charity! Please bid generously you are making a donation not getting a "deal" http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=230428356409&Category=72182&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1#ht_500wt_1182

It is snowing pretty hard here. The animals are really enjoying the view from INSIDE the toasty warm house. Today I am gessoing panels which is what I did pretty much all night long yesterday. I have a few left though I am running out of gesso. Don't know if I will brave the storm to get it. I am not afraid of driving really but my car fishtails like a mother and EVERYONE in MD panics and can't drive when they see a snowflake. It is crazy

Right now I have Rio purring on my lap and he is intermittently trying to eat my hair. He loves to do that. Also I am getting stuff together for our Valentines Day Vlog tomorrow. Only a few weeks till Valentines day! My shopping is done. Johnnie was going to do his today but with the snow who knows.

I have a lot to do today so I better get to it. Happy Saturday everyone!

How's Rio kitteh?

Riookie is doing a lot better! He has to be on a special diet which he doesn't LOVE , what portly cat would? He's getting back to the way he used to be. He still has a naked butt and belly which isn't fun when it is cold but it is starting to grow little baby fine hairs. He is still crashing my video blogs so maybe he will be in one on Sunday as well. Thanks for asking!!

Update

This week is moving both fast and slow and I have yet to really paint anything. I just feel stressed. There are so many things I have to juggle lately I am starting to wonder if I should bring in help. Of course training them will take more time out of my day that I don't have so it is sort of a double edged sword. Johnnie and I will talk more about it this weekend.

I'm getting ready for Coastcon, which is in March. It is a mail in so I just want to get it done and out of the way so I can focus on my next big show which is Megacon. Why Florida you ask? My dad lives there so I thought I would mix a little business with our visit. That shouldn't surprise anyone, we are always working on something or another even when we are on "vacation" One of my goals for the year is to keep building up the momentum that seemed to really get going last year. I just have to stay focused and motivated though I find myself easily distracted this week.

We are doing show ordering for the year in installments. Mostly because I don't want 50 shipments showing up at the same time and this way it isn't SO much money all in one clip. I did order well over a thousand backing boards and bags in various sizes for this season. We will see how far it will get me this year. I need to be better prepared for some shows. DragonCon for example, we sold out of a LOT of stuff even though I SWORE what I brought was over kill.

Also we still have some Mugs left over. We are now sold out of the Sly fox mug, but we have the others. I expect the Cheshire cat to be next because of the movie hype so if you were planning on buying any of them, now is the time.

New wonderland art

I painted the white rabbit a LOOOONNNGG time ago and the original is long gone.To me he looked like a mob boss and I guess that is what I got for watching the Sopranos and painting at the same time. Fast forward several years and I wanted to reimagine him still a little mob bossy but a little more sophisticated. So here you have it Portrait of the White Rabbit. Prints will be available on the site shortly.

For the curious my original painting:

Today I am in the studio working on new things, getting ready to start my Monday work out. Rio is feeling frisky today and my dog is barking his butt off at some construction people he REALLY doesn't want in front of the house.

Don't forget about my black cat charity auction from my vlog!!

Off I go
