Getting there

This morning I put the final touches on painting 5 of 7 in my series for my project! I have two more and I am DONE! I still have a slew of obligations to do before I can actually paint what I want again but I am getting closer. So far in 2009 I have done 1 sculpture and 5 paintings! I hope I can keep up this pace and make 2009 my biggest year ever.

Last night I went to a friends house for a pot luck movie night. We watched Pineapple Express which was pretty hilarious! Tonight I am going out with my friend James and we are going to vegetate and watch movies at his place. If I can get my 6th painting sketched out before then I can feel like I earned it. Tomorrow is the superbowl of course and I will be dragging out all the Valentines Day decorations. My doggie even has a conversation heart collar. I can't believe the first month of the year is over already! Time flies.

Busy weekend (what else is new?)

Ok so I just got back from shipping orders this week. I am happy to have things to ship! I hope this pace keeps up cause my waiting for paint to dry has turned into time for me to window shop for stuff on the web. Currently I am hooked on Aromaleigh mineral eyeshadow and am lusting over their new collection. There is also a pretty cool Phoenix guitar I totally heart. But I won't be making any purchases for anything any time soon. I am still shelling out show fees, application fees and more fees. Lordy! I have 5 more to apply to!

I have been asked to do a logo for a racing team which is pretty cool. I luckily got ahead this week and now I added this so I am on target now instead of ahead. I shot my video blog already for this week as I have some plans. I will be posting in on Sunday as usual.

Tonight we are going to a potluck movie night and I am making home made kettle corn!

Heart tins on ETSY

Hello everyone,

I am slowly putting up my heart tins on ETSY. Some come with cameo necklaces inside, some are empty for you to fill with whatever you wish. These are really cute and where made only for Valentines day. They will not be in regular stock. This is Johnnie's first "solo" project of the year. We have lots more planned.

Yesterday I finished up painting 4 in my series of 7. It was the first gryphon I have done since 2006?5? who knows I never keep track anymore.I am going to sketch out and hopefully start painting 5 today though I am feeling kinda lazy for the most part. At least I am halfway there!

Mustang Sally Stabled

Well thanks to our bout of ice my rockin sports car is curbed for today. Bummer I was going to get my hair cut but I can do it tomorrow. My mother hates that car with a passion, little does she know that when Sally (my mustang) goes out to pasture I fully intend on purchasing a 2008 Mustang Bullitt Coupe. Yeah it is sportier and more fishtaily but I love them and I don't need a swagon to cart around my non existent children. I mean it is a Bullett Coupe! All the fun of vintage without having to go cross country for the authentic radiator cap (believe me I know people who have)

So I am homebound today but I don' t mind. I want to finish the gryphon and work out what I am going to do with the last three paintings. I want them all wrapped up like yesterday. I have big plans for more things and I want to get to them as soon as I can. I also need to photograph my new tins and put them up on ETSY.

To my artist buddies anyone want an Artist prism projector?? I don't use one myself but I have a friend trying to sell one.

Update on retired figurines: Fluffy is SOLD OUT! I still have 7 Dantes and 3 Jay the vultures.

Well I should eat something and then get to work. I may even shovel the walk.

Boots of doom!!!

OMG OMG!!! My boots came today!!! I have been drooling/lusting/pining over a pair of Docs for like EVER and I promised myself if I got through ALL the figurines I could totally buy them. I rarely spend a ton of money on myself but inventory was BRUTAL. Yeah I bribe myself with stuff...Like if I do X amount of paintings I get to order a book or BPAL or something. Yeah I guess I am five but my dog gets a treat for peeing outside so I should be rewarded too ;) These boots where originally called Phoenix boots too which I thought was cool. They fit like they where custom made for me which rules.

I am working on painting 4, a gryphon. My first gryphon since 2005. I like him so far. After him I have three more paintings and I am DONE with the series. YAY!! Though I have to say it is a lot of fun to work with this company and I am really excited to see the finished product.

Last night I finished up the second Mercy Thompson book which I really liked. I am running out of books I haven't read! Pretty soon we will be gearing up with Imagaicon and I won't have time to read which is just as well it is an expensive habit. More then my Sephora/Aromaleigh/BPAL/Boot addiction....well maybe not more then that but close!

I will be wearing the boots in question to Imagicon. I may sleep in them tonight I love them so much.

hustle

I have been busting my tail trying to get some paperwork filled out and ready to mail. I am having a banner made for shows so people can find me easily. I know some people come to fairy fest to see me and then have to wander to all the tents trying to find me. Not any more. This year you can look for the big purple phoenix banner. So that is taking some time to deal with. I have a show who refuses to look at websites so I have to print out pictures which is a pain in the butt. Embrace technology people! I also have in the works a portfolio site shows and licensing people can go to so they don't have to wade through my site to see what they want to see. That will be in a bit though, I still haven't fully updated my business site though postcards are up and ready to roll now. I have a lot of bath products to put up and several other items.

We unearthed a few figurine stragglers so I have a few more to sign this evening and Johnnie is going to be counting and taking care of that. He will also be doing some Igoogle themes and updating my book. I have 13 more paintings to do before we can call it a day with that. They will ALL be new so that is pretty cool. After my blogcrastination I will be sketching out painting 4 of seven and hopefully doing the entire background this evening. It is a unicorn so it shouldn't take terribly long.

Also since right now I can't get soy candles in as my candle fairy is moving I have licensed with Coriale Enterprises for some designs on Palm Wax candles: http://ping.fm/cg7Ss I should have them on my site at some point as well.

I just sent in some more designs for scrap booking and fabric blocks. I will let you know when they are ready for purchase as well.

Painting 2 complete

So last night I managed to complete my painting and sketch out and start another one. The question now is do I take advantage of this fast catch up and plow through this piece or do I take this as an opportunity to relax? I am thinking the smarter answer is not to go out and finish this up and then I am ahead a week. My video blog is already filmed and the last of the figurines will be done today. Johnnie just finished up doing the photography and digital adjustments for my new painting and it is off to my company to see if they like it. Two down 5 to go..well more like 4 and a half. I am really pleased with how these pieces are turning out and I hope you guys like them too. The product that they are for is totally cool and I am anxious to share it with you but unfortunately that isn't going to happen for the moment.

I have some packages to deal with today too so I will be busy busy as usual!!

Up and ready to roll

So I woke up this morning way earlier then planned thanks to a loudly puking cat. Thanks so much Kahlua. Why does that cat have such damn good acoustics? I am not a day person. I think I am partially vampiric. I was up last night finishing the first in a series of Mercy Thompson books I liked it and am glad I already have two more to read when I have the chance. I need to update my book list as I have a few more titles to add for sale or swap but all in due time. So I am here awake and caffinated thanks to my beverage station. God I love that thing. you just pop in a pod and press a button. I don't have to make a pot of anything which is cool cause I only want one anyway.

Today I am putting the finishing touches on painting 2 of 7 for my project. Then I get to send it off and start painting three. Last night we brought up the last of the crates of figurines so it is only a matter of time before it is all taken care of (like by sunday) I know Johnnie is tired of it big time. I said he can have the month of February off but after that he is going to have to hustle some tail with me framing and doing some things for Imagicon.

This weekend is going to be pretty busy. I need to wrap up that painting. Johnnie is doing the Valentines Day project. He did two mock ups last night and they are CUTE!! They will debut on my video blog on Sunday. I set up Mr. Printy version 2.0 yesterday and OH man is this thing great. It is so quiet and fast. Gotta love technology!!

Right now I am killing time till the post office opens at 10 am. Yeah it is a itty bitty office with ONE employee and NO automatic postage kiosk. I was totally spoiled by that at our old house. I could get a postage printer but I am too cheap to do so, also it is nice to get out of the house at least once a week for a bank run and then the post office. They are right around the corner from each other.

This year I am going to be diversifying into several projects that are fantasy related but not entirely to do with art. I am going to be totally swamped, I am a little stressed already but I think in the long run it will be worth it. My buddy James promises to make me sane with movies. He is in law school so we both need to do a force decompress once a week.

New stuff!!

Hi Everyone,

I am happy to say we have some NEW mini prints available on ETSY AND my website! I don't have all of the prints in mini yet but I do have a fair few including a 4 seasons unicorn pack of all of them in mini. The mini prints are 4x6 and printed on luster paper. They are really really nice and a bargain at 4.00. These fit in standard photo frames and albums for those who have limited wall space. I will be posting more minis but I ran out of bags and backing board!

My new printer is here and that means that there will be some neat new print sizes coming. We will have a larger Matted archival size which will be limited editions of 50. no more no less. We will also have a larger regular print size coming for certain prints.

Johnnie and I have about a dozen crates left to go through and the figurine inventory will be complete. That means after the fact we will be placing our new figurine order. There will be 9 new designs instead of 6 which is pretty cool.

I still have 3 Jay the vultures, 8 Dantes and 4 Fluffys left. Once they are gone I won't be selling them again. These are signed and right now 50% off. This is your last chance to get these and they are only 8.00

I have a new mug design coming as well as a LOT of new products. I have some new post cards in that I will be adding to the site as soon as time permits. Today I need to finish a rebate for my printer and apply to two shows and get them in the mail ASAP. I am almost finished applying to shows. I am still waiting on a few to have the apps made available but I have had to shell out a LOT in fees already. Yikes!

The second painting in my series will be wrapped up and ready by the weekend which will be cool. I have to sketch out another one so I can keep it moving. Looks like these are going to take 7 weeks after all.

Well my little dog is barking his head off which means I have a delivery. He has a 6th sense about it the truck isn't even on the street yet. Check out the new mini's!!

Catching up and not falling behind (hopefully)

Well I am about 50% with my second of 7 paintings which is pretty cool. All I can say about it is that it is a dragon piece. I will be working on it for part of the day. Johnnie and I went through SO many figurines last night. There are still MORE MORE MORE, then we order more and then there are even more. I am going to be signing my name in my sleep soon I think. Thank GOD I didn't keep my maiden name. Funny thing about that as soon as I ditched Speranzella I got a bunch of licensing, even from companies that said no not a month before... apparently Ash Evans is easier for everyone.

I have some DIY vinyl figures coming to the house as I have been invited to be in a designer toy gallery show in NYC. Basically these little vinyl guys come blank and I just paint/alter them and they are going in a competition and a gallery show in New York. None have come to the house yet and I need to have them shipped in by March 31st so as soon as they get here I better get to work on them. for those in the know I will be altering a 7in Munny, a 4 in Dunny and a Bizarregoyle. Johnnie should be doing the Valentines day project so that it is ready by the weekend. We just want to finish these frackin figurines so we can order more and torture ourselves all over again. We are sick like that.

I also wanted to say I will NOT be attending The Valtentines day show or the earlier one in March. There where some conflicts. My first show of the year still is Imagicon 2009 where I will be a special guest. I have 65 days to get ready and go to Alabama. We will be offering up the originals from my secret project and a lot of cool stuff in the Art Gallery as well as being there in full force in the dealer room.

Oh I also want these perfume oils GONE so they are all buy one get one free. Also my retired statuary is 50% off while supplies last.

When is too much compromise compromising?

In my world (aka my circle of non art friends and family) I get a lot of crap for working all of the time. They don't understand what it takes to run your own business and they don't feel like art could possibly be work. Living your dream should be all hugs and puppies and my life has just got to be like one big carnival 24/7. They see photos of shows with costumes and glitter and think it is all as easy as the photos look. No one sees the late nights plastered to the computer answering emails, the post office runs overflowing with packages or get that even when you do your own thing there are deadlines. Show tents spring up like magic mushrooms and art just happens. In a perfect world maybe, sometimes you get lucky but more often then not that isn't even the case. I get a lot of guilt trips about working all the time. A missed brunch here and a baby shower there and all the sudden you become self absorbed and selfish. You work too much becomes a punch line and requests to be left in peace to get work done are ignored. I try to do what I can but quite frankly I am happiest when I am working. When I am not most of the time I am thinking oh now my inbox has 30 emails in it, these packages will still have to be mailed and you have 70 days till your first show. Life was a lot easier when we where in Connecticut as we where so far removed from everyone and everything the word obligation didn't hit us too often. Sometimes I wonder if it was a terrible mistake coming back to our home town. Reading through this post I know when I post it I will get phone calls about it but frankly I don't care. I am not upset or angry but I spend the majority of my life feeling like I am in that Twilight Zone where everyone is a pig but me and they think I am ugly. Most of the time I can take it with the grace and humor of a Libra but sometimes I just shake my head. I guess the point is all I can ever be is myself and to do what I can. If you don't like it you don't like me. I think I have tried too hard for too long to be a person who will just make everyone happy. I'm just kinda over it. So I guess what I am saying to my readers is take it or leave it.

i will be able to get in another half day of work today and I am working straight through the weekend to make up for it. I have some awesome paintings that I am racking up in the background. Their release date will be determined by a product release date. After these 7 paintings I can do whatever I like. I am having fun with these though. I have a really nice new printer coming as I think I killed Mr. Printy....

Oh and Johnnies and my valentines day project will be up for sale by this weekend. cool :)

Letting go a little

Ok so last night even though I said I wasn't going to work I was when a good friend of mine from high school told me to cut it out and go out. He is one of my oldest friends and we spent a LOT of time together when we where younger. I hadn't seen James since my wedding so after about an hour of oh just come on I said sure and we went out and then back to his place to watch movies. It was the longest I ever went without checking my email. It was awesome. Some time during the night it snowed as we where out entirely too late. I got in early this morning and went right to sleep which was a first. So thanks James for making me function like a real human being and not some zombie chained to an art desk or computer.

Today I did a whole lot of sleeping and that is about it. I am wearing my husbands Foetus shirt and his Jimmy's from entirely too long ago. They long stopped fitting him so I inherited them a while back. I think the Jimmy's are from middle school. They seriously rock. Now if only some of his shirts from Amsterdam would shrink...

I guess I should go DO something so I don't feel too guilty, I really am mobbed and have company coming over for a little bit tomorrow as well.

Today has been great, I had some samples of things coming in, some decisions where made about new products and I have a sketch for my new painting. Busy times are ahead!!

Frack it is cold!!

Today is order shipping day. I ventured out in the 12 degree weather bundled up like an eskimo. I needed to stop at the ATM and deposit some money. It wasn't working so I went inside. I mentioned to the lady at the bank the ATMs aren't working, she was like yeah they are frozen. Wow it was cold enough to freeze them. I hurried to the post office and dropped off my orders and home I went. I am still cold. Johnnie and I have to get some framing stuff this evening so we are going out again briefly.

I have a chocolate covered strawberry Wyrm glass locket in my shop too. He would be perfect for Valentines day. I may make a converstation heart one this weekend if I have time. I also have some regular valentines day cameos I can list. We are going to be staying inside this weekend for the most part. We still have a lot of inventory to go though as well as me having to paint another piece for my project. The first one passed with flying colors so I am able to just jump into the next one. A dragon, it is pretty cool looking. I am hoping Johnnie has time this weekend to work on our second bathroom so we can get it painted and refinished. Our garbage disposal died and we need to buy and install a new one as well. Fun times. We had a full bed last night! All three cats and the dog crammed in the bed with us under blankets with the space heater. Oh and for those worrying my bunnies are HOUSE rabbits. They live indoors all the time so no one is outside in this. They never go outside. Chinchilla too. We are all trying to stay toasty. I have been doing a lot of laundry as well and that heats up the house more.

What I am up to

Well I finished my first painting of 7 yesterday and that was cool. I am awaiting feedback on it as well as sketching for another one of the paintings. I am really happy with how it turned out and I hope everyone else is too. I think it is going to be a really cool series when all is said and done. I can say that in this series I am doing more then unicorns, I know you guys are a little unicorned out at the moment. Actually tomorrow if all goes to plan I will be doing a dragon piece which is nice I haven't done one in ages. I think Ness was the last one and that was in August.

It is so cold here, it is supposed to drop to 5 below sometime soon. Our house is a little chilly but not too bad. I am reading Kitty and the Midnight hour which is about a werewolf that hosts a talk show for other supes (supernatural beings) I think it is pretty entertaining so far. I also have some other books that came today, they are the last of my christmas gift certificate books so after these I am going to have to sell some off to purchase any more.

Johnnie and I have been going through figurines every evening for hours and we will do so until we get through all the boxes. Tonight we finished up one pallet of three that we have down stairs. I can't believe we have more to go through and more coming. The good news is I have a TON of signed guys waiting to just sell so yay.

Oh and for those wondering about the podcast, due to some technical difficulties it has been postponed till Saturday and then I will let you know about it airing on the web. Thanks for asking :)

My pre-show demands

Johnnie and I where joking about my guest status and shows and we got to talking about pre show demands. You know all the crazy stuff celebs want in their dressing room or they simply can't go on. Most famously would be Van Halen's bowl of M&M's with all the brown ones removed. That was actually a tactic to see how well the venue read the contract.

Busy day

I got up early this morning because i had an interview for a podcast only to have it rescheduled for this evening. The bright side is I was up earlier and I can accomplish more. I am printing out show apps, catching up on emails and painting. I am blogging now as I have a wash waiting to dry. I am doing another mixed media piece for the project I can't talk about. First one in a series of 7. I want to do a Valentines piece also as I am doing a show on Valentines Day a month from today. I can't believe how fast time flies. We will see if I am able to make one or not.

I am now selling Mugs on my website! I have Strawberry Wyrm, Chessie, Flitters and Sly. They are really nice!

I need to find the time to put Artemis up for sale also. I have a fan page to put together and a billion other things, I feel stretched pretty thin these days. At night Johnnie and I are inspecting ALL of our figurine inventory and I am signing them to have a total so we can place our new order for figurines. I will be prototyping some more for next year and may venture into hanging ornaments as well. All the counting, inspecting and signing is a huge undertaking as we are talking about over a thousand pieces. Our next order will be BIG something like 1800 pieces or something crazy like that. Umm if anyone wants to take some current figurines off of our hands that would be swell ;) I also have a few more of the retired ones kicking around.

Well my wash is dry..back to work.



Things are going pretty well. I have had three interviews on various sites this month alone and I will be posting links as soon as they are up.

Ash Vlog #21

slightly frustrated by someone's behavior today.

Project

I have been up all night chatting with a friend of mine which is really cool. I love having nocturnal people to talk to in the wee hours of the morning. My new project is all hashed out and I am ready to start sketching. I will be doing 7 paintings. I will not be able to release them until what they are intended for is completed. I want these to be perfect and I want them done efficiently so that I can keep making new art for shows.

My new unicorn sculpture is all painted, I will be able to seal it today when I wake up. I don't know if my hair has even shipped yet so I will have to wait until it gets here to show you photos. It is really cool, it is a black unicorn with metallic accents and it will have either a white or black mane and tail. I want to get into more realistic sculpting so I will work on it when I can. Lots to do before my first show in February. 35 days until my first show and counting. My art book is coming along nicely. I have 16 more pages to do and it is all ready to roll. I am also working on a banner for shows this year so people can find me.

All kinds of good stuff ahead. This weekend I want to take down the holiday stuff and relax a little.

sculpture

Ok guys,

I wanted to give you a little update on the sculpture and to say it is NOT for sale yet. I know several of you have emailed me with the intent to purchase it sight unseen BUT: 1) that is totally unfair to everyone. 2) It isn't even painted yet 3) I don't know how much hair I am going to use on it as I have never done it before and that is going to effect the price.

I will let you know as soon as I know and thank you for your interest. I wish I could say there will be plenty more where that came from but with my time table this year I can promise nothing. I am currently in my studio now putting base coats on the primed piece but it will be a few days before the paint job is complete and I don't think the hair has even shipped yet and I will be dyeing it myself.

While things are drying I am working on the website, taking down sale things and retired pieces as well as adding new pages and what have you.

WIP

I am awaiting a meeting before I go forward with a 7 painting series, it will most likely happen tomorrow but I am trying to make the most of my "down time" Last night I started sculpting a free standing unicorn. I need to really practice sculpting so I can do it quickly and easily while instructing others for my work shop so I picked it back up again. I have found an easier way to do armatures and I have found a perfect clay blend so the next scupltures you see should be pretty cool. This will be the last one that is purely super sculpey. I even ordered hair for it so it will be hand furred as well as hand sculpted and painted. So far it is baked and awaiting primer so that is pretty good. I may have time to prime and paint it before I start in on my new project. Then all I have to do is wait for my hair to come in and I can glue and post it up for sale. Every one of my sculptures has sold out so it will be nice to have one (while it lasts)

IF I get burn out while doing my series I may supplement with other paintings in sculptures so I have new things to sell and stuff to show you in the mean time.

A lot of folks are asking about my book and if they can pre order. Yes there will be a pre order, it will be in April we should have the books in May (SHOULD) Every pre order will come signed and personalized as you wish. We will also be offering a deluxe collectors edition of the book which will come with a print, signed book with a free sketch inside. I will have prices in April when I do the pre order.

Also in the future we will be doing limited edition prints. These will be pretty neat with small runs of 25 or 50 depending. We will also be doing special edition framed things as well as OOAK framed pieces. Johnnie has an idea for a steam punk frame for my Like Clockwork piece that will blow your mind (gotta love engineers)

Things are progressing but it is like (to quote my grandma) Molasses on a cold day. Slowly, Slowly we are creeping forward. I have SO much to do to my site, lots of projects and big deadlines. I can't believe I decided to start things up in February!! Instead of MAY! Oh well we will do what we do best, make it work.

My dark secret...not really

For those that know me personally I am pretty bad ass ;) I have tattoos and piercings and a bit of a leather boot addiction. I love riding thousand pound animals, boxed and swear like a merchant marine with turrets syndrome.

But...

I collect unicorns. Happy pink unicorns and hello kitty. My inner feminist vomits a little every time I buy one but I do in all their pink glittery glory. I don't know why but I love them. It started early with the Whisper the winged unicorn books (they came with stickers) I loved them. Then I got a My little pony, then another, then my grandpa was building a stable for them. The first thing I ever bought with my own money was a little stuffed unicorn I later named Lancelot. I wonder if my mom still has him? By the time I was in college I had quite a collection though sadly there was an accident with them and most where lost forever. It was sad but I get to start over again and that can be fun too. I did last year start back up with collecting them again. My favorite so far is a hand sculpted one someone made and was selling on EBAY. It is pink and has little fairy wings. My oldest and largest piece was recently broken by a houseguest. It went on tour with a rock group but didn't last 5 min with them. I need to figure out how to mend it. Hopefully you guys aren't too unicorned out. I want to do the day and night ones before I do the 4 seasons dragons. My current project has 7 paintings 2 of which are unicorns, so brace yourself ;) The Ash Evans Zodiac is declaring this year the Year of the Unicorn!

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you all had a nice weekend. I sure did. I did very little work and it was nice to relax a little bit. I read The Graveyard book and started in on another one. I returned some things at the mall and exchanged them for new stuff and that was fun.

I have a few days to kill before I have a phone meeting to discuss my new projects direction so I may try to do some art you can see and try to supplement it in between art you can't so I don't go like 2-3 months without showing you anything. I was wondering what you all think of me doing a similar 4 seasons dragon series? I also wanted to do some night and day unicorns but you guys may be getting unicorned out. I have loads of new ideas, I keep them in a little notebook for when I am able to do a painting just because and not something for a book or licensing or something. We will see how it goes. If you are reading my time stamps lately you will see that again I am at the funky up late sleep late thing. I usually go to bed around 5 am now. I always get 8 hours of sleep whenever I do get sleep so it isn't like I am overly tired or anything. It is just odd to be up at night all night. I feel like a vampire.

I want to be more organized this year both in my home and with my business so I am taking steps to work on both. I want to keep the house tidier this year and keep in better shape and stay on top of stuff more. I am so one track minded with my work sometimes I forget anything else is there. It isn't till weeks later that I realize oh man I never did laundry..or something equally as bad. I just get so engrossed.

Today I am taking down all the sales prices on the site and shipping out some things that where ordered during the break. I am going to work on my fan page as well. Anyone who has pictures of them with my art or products, tattoos and the like please email me ashevans@phoenixxfirestudios.com and I will post it. I already have some lovely photos of some ladies with my mineral make up on which will be in there. When I get around to it.

Also for those waiting on my book list it is coming, I am waiting for Johnnie to throw in some of his too.

Video Blog #20

Sale extended

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let you know I have decided to extend our New Years sale until Monday. Shipping resumes the 5th so all orders placed this weekend will ship then.

Yesterday I finished reading The Graveyard book and Sense and Sensibility (odd combo I know) I sometimes read several books at once which I guess makes me go through them even faster then normal. I got another Amazon shipment today the one I paid for with a Christmas gift card but I am afraid that will be it for books for me for a while unless I can unload some that I already have. I am compiling a full list to post soon.
